Buy Gold and Silver in Louisiana
Louisiana has long played an important cultural role in American history, especially with popular music and film. The modern economy of Louisiana is also diverse, including agricultural products, coal and petroleum extraction, finance, tourism, and logistics. Indeed, the Port of South Louisiana is the biggest bulk cargo port in the world.
Residents of Louisiana have always heavily invested in gold and silver bullion, despite the lack of gold mining in the state's history. Today, there are many top gold and silver dealers in Louisiana, especially in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge metro areas.
Are There Taxes on Buying Gold and Silver Bullion in Louisiana?
Beginning in 2013, there is a broad sales tax exemption when you buy silver, gold, and platinum in Louisiana. Numismatic coins are also fully exempt from the state sales tax rate of 4%. United States Mint -- New Orleans Branch
The New Orleans branch of the United States Mint operated from 1838 - 1861, as well as from 1879 - 1909. It was closed during the US Civil War period, as well as during post-war reconstruction. During its years of operation, the branch produced over 427 million gold and silver circulation coins of every US denomination. The New Orleans branch was established at the same time as the Charlotte branch and the Dahlonega branch, in order to meet the increased need for circulating coinage caused, in part, by population growth, but also by certain fiscal policies initiated by then-President Andrew Jackson. Coins produced here are highly collectible, especially gold issues like the gold Eagles and Double Eagles. All coins manufactured here carry the "O" mint mark. Today, the building still stands and is home to the Louisiana State Museum.
